6. What is the purpose and how does the legislatively directed spending item provide a public benefit that is an appropriate use of taxpayer money?
YesRx is Michigan’s statewide cancer drug repository network that manages our state’s inventory of cancer medication donated by individuals for use by Michigan residents. The donated cancer medication is provided for free to patients in need due to high medication costs, insurance delays, or other barriers impacting their access to care. YesRx enables Public Act 416 to benefit residents by activating existing infrastructure across the state, eliminating redundancies, and adapting to varying settings to connect patients and clinicians to the cancer drug repository program. A state appropriation allocated to YesRx would be used to meet the 14x increase in resident need by making access to free cancer medication and support for donating cancer medication a more effective resource to improve cancer care delivery in Michigan. State funding would automate some of the manual services that the two full time employees perform resulting in enhanced efficiency of free medication distribution to clinics for patients. Automating their manual systems would allow YesRx to continue expanding their partnerships across the state with a goal of serving 100% of Michigan counties (currently serving 95%).
