Funds will be used to support youth development and mentorship programming in Greater Lansing. Services will be focused on the following categories: 1. Prevention and Youth Development: Early intervention with youth at risk of academic failure, delinquency, or justice system involvement. Addressing these issues proactively can reduce future costs for law enforcement, corrective services, and social support. Evidence shows mentoring can improve academic performance, reduce absenteeism, and build resilience in youth. 2. Education and Workforce Preparation: By focusing on school success, life skills, and career preparation, programs help more students graduate and develop skills needed for the workforce. Higher graduation rates and career readiness strengthen the local labor pool and economic prospects for young people. 3. Community Safety and Well-Being: Reductions in youth violence and involvement in crime through mentorship and support networks. Investing in positive opportunities for young people can contribute to overall community safety and cohesion. United Mentoring Program will focus public resources where they are most effective. LDSI funding for youth support programs will be cost-effective, directing taxpayer money toward community-based services proven to have measurable outcomes (e.g., improved attendance, fewer disciplinary issues).
