- The integrated Operations Center represents a sound and responsible use of taxpayer dollars by protecting public safety at one of Michigan’s most heavily used public assets while leveraging existing institutional, local, and regional investments. Serving more than 1.7 million annual visitors—including students, families, and large scale event attendees—The Henry Ford requires modern, interoperable systems to ensure effective emergency response and operational coordination. This investment strengthens collaboration with municipal, county, and state public safety partners, builds upon existing partnerships with local law enforcement, and contributes to broader regional emergency preparedness. As Michigan’s largest cultural destination and home to Henry Ford Academy, a public charter high school, the Operations Center safeguards students, staff, and visitors while ensuring continuity of educational programming and public access. By funding a one-time capital improvement with long term benefits, the state maximizes public return, reduces future risk, and reinforces shared public safety infrastructure rather than duplicating it.
