• What is the purpose and how does the legislatively directed spending item provide a public benefit that is an appropriate use of taxpayer money?
  Texas Township is seeking to purchase a large capacity tanker, crucial for responding to areas of the township not serviced by the municipal water system and therefore, without fire hydrants. These areas total about 70 percent of the township. Texas Township has two fire trucks, a pumper engine and the tanker. For comparison, our pumper engine holds 1,000 gallons of water, while the tanker Texas Township seeks to replace holds 2,500 gallons, making it vital for communities like Texas Township. Additionally, the equipment is not only used for Texas Township, but they also routinely provide mutual aid to surrounding municipalities, many of which also include large portions without hydrants. In fact, all the fire departments in the entire geographic area combined have only 4-5 tankers of this type, including the 26-year-old engine at the end of its service life, that this funding would support replacing. The size of the apparatus's water tank and its ability to safely navigate all manners of road conditions underscore the tanker's role as a principal component of Texas Township's fire protection plan.
