What is the purpose and how does the legislatively directed spending item provide a public benefit that is an appropriate use of taxpayer money? Many of our homeless Tribal Members experience physical and mental health issues, active addiction, child welfare, and law-enforcement involvement; all of these barriers affect the ability to become re-housed. Therefore, the Lodge of Hope provides on-site Case Management to assist Tribal Members to become re-housed. The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians' active goals are to work with Tribal members to obtain realistic, affordable, and maintainable housing. The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians is seeking funding to continue offering Shelter Services to the Tribal Membership, including staff wages/fringe, facility upgrades, equipment/supplies, and support services for shelter guests.
