  The unexpected failure of Oakland University’s high-temperature hot water (HTHW) pipe system caused major, unprecedented campus-wide disruptions that necessitated an emergency campus closure from November 21, 2025, through January 3, 2026. During this period, costly and ongoing repairs and replacements have been made to the aging infrastructure and piping system at a cost of $5 million. Costs for additional repairs, replacements, and upgrades associated with this project will be supplemented using university reserves as well.
