The CSU model also delivers notable savings for taxpayers. Traditional inpatient psychiatric stays are significantly more expensive and typically involve much longer lengths of stay. In contrast, CSU services operate at a fraction of the cost and stabilize individuals in substantially less time. This approach reduces unnecessary hospital utilization, avoids criminal‑justice involvement, and supports better outcomes for both individuals and the community.
