6. What is the purpose and how does the legislatively directed spending item provide a public benefit that is an appropriate use of taxpayer money?
The program will support up to five applied manufacturing projects per year for three years, with individual project awards of up to $250,000. The Michigan Advanced Manufacturing Alliance (MAMA) Program will establish a Michigan-focused innovation partnership led by the MSU Research Foundation. The program will support manufacturer driven applied innovation projects, workforce aligned technology development, and commercialization activities that strengthen Michigan’s advanced manufacturing sector. Public funding will directly support nonprofit collaboration that improves competitiveness, drives job creation, and accelerates innovation across Michigan.
