- Memorial Healthcare is a 105-year-old rural independent hospital located in Owosso in rural Shiawassee County with a nearly 40 additional ambulatory outpatient locations throughout Shiawassee, Bay, Clinton, Ingham, Livingston, and Saginaw Counties. Memorial Healthcare plays a vital role as an independent, rural healthcare provider in mid-Michigan. The hospital requests state support alongside planned investments for critical infrastructure to ensure sustainable operations delivering rural healthcare. The hospital seeks funding to provide for upgrade and replacement of vital hospital systems including heating, cooling, plumbing, and more. For example, current HVAC and boiler systems in place have reached their functional life and urgent replacement and repairs are needed in order to ensure the health and safety of patients, visitors, and staff. Investment in the hospital’s critical infrastructure can provide long-term savings with modern equipment in place. Infrastructure improvements would allow the hospital to increase energy efficiency upgrading the boiler and eliminating reliance on window unit air conditioners. The $2.4 million funding award would consist of: $390k in support for boiler room modernization, insulation, roof replacement, structural enhancements and a new boiler chemical treatment system alongside Memorial’s multimillion-dollar boiler replacement investment. $760,000 toward upgrading 38 patient room HVAC systems in the south wing of the hospital to latest air quality capability, in-room customization and interoperability. $250,000 for new air handlers and chillers in the north wing of the hospital. $1 million in funds alongside Memorial’s investment in domestic and sanitary plumbing upgrades. As Memorial Healthcare continues to address numerous facilities needs in a challenging fiscal environment, infrastructure investment support is essential in the hospital’s ability to provide uninterrupted healthcare services to the patients we serve.
