• What is the purpose and how does the legislatively directed spending item provide a public benefit that is an appropriate use of taxpayer money?
  The Krause Memorial Library is located in Downtown Rockford but serves several surrounding townships / communities in Northern Kent County. Since the last renovation (33 years ago) annual visits have doubled to over 160,000. Krause averages triple the number of visits other surrounding area libraries experience. Krause's service area includes some rural communities where internet connection can be difficult to access. This funding will provide the library the ability to provide these services and continue to be a valuable resource in the community. This funding request will allow the library to grow 2.5 times larger - from 9,500 sq ft. to 23,000 sq ft - in order to better handle the volume it has experienced over the last few decades. Other necessary updates include additional study rooms and quiet spaces to sit, work, and read, a drive-up book return, increased open hours, and a large community room for public and library program use. The goal is to increase additional visits per year by 16,000, increase program attendees by 1,100, and add an additional 400 students per month using the study room and space.
