The Grand Traverse Bay YMCA is working on an expansion of its primary facility located at 3700 Silver Lake Rd. With the growth in population in and around the Grand Traverse Region, The West YMCA facility has become the wellness hub in this area. With this expansion not only will the Y be poised to serve more people with needed wellness services, but we will also be in a strong position to continue to serve the more than 120 middle school students who call the Y their home every day immediately after school. Expanded classroom spaces will afford the Y the opportunity to serve more students with designated social, educational after school services. We will also be able offer more free community-based services that focus on loneliness and isolation for all ages through our wellness workshop series in partnership with other community partners like Munson, Mary Free Bed, Women’s Resource Center, Traverse Area Public Schools and Traverse Connect to name a few. This Phase 2 project will also expand our free Holistic Chronic Disease offerings including Livestrong for cancer survivors, Parkinson Classes and Diabetes prevention as well. The Grand Traverse Bay YMCA also provides a robust financial assistance program for those who may not be able to afford the services we provide. No person is ever turned away from the Y for inability to pay the Grand Traverse Bay has averaged more than $200,000 each year in financial assistance for individuals and families in this region. Wellness for all, whether it be physical, mental, emotional, community or disease prevention based improves the functionality and productivity for communities that have access. The Grand Traverse region is no exception with more than 18,000 members engaged in Y activities through multi-generational access for all.
