6. What is the purpose and how does the legislatively directed spending item provide a public benefit that is an appropriate use of taxpayer money?
This LDSI request will provide local schools across Michigan with the ability to apply for grants to improve evidence-based practices in arts education, and implement a data and community-mapping system to strengthen connections between schools, local artists and art instituions. It is a continuation of state funding provided over the past three fiscal years. In the past, this project has received $100,000 in federal funds from the National Endowment of the Arts. The state has awarded $275,000 from the Michigan Arts & Culture Council.
