• What is the purpose and how does the legislatively directed spending item provide a public benefit that is an appropriate use of taxpayer money?
  This project is to rehabilitate the City's primary fire house to address staff safety and wellness concerns, environmental hazards, and repair aging infrastructure. Work includes substantial system repairs (electrical, plumbing, HVAC) as well as essential safety improvements including new access controls, fire suppression system, and asbestos abatement. The work will also incorporate some energy efficiency measures through the use of newer lighting and HVAC elements. Interior work would address current deficiencies with the living quarters for firefighters which are in a much-deteriorated state and do not fully provide for the health and wellness needs of the department. All work is for a public purpose and benefit as the fire station serves residents in the City of Ferndale, City of Pleasant Ridge, and Royal Oak Township, as well as provides mutual aid to several other communities.
