- 6. What is the purpose and how does the legislatively directed spending item provide a public benefit that is an appropriate use of taxpayer money?
- This request will help make the Calhoun County Youth Center, a county-run juvenile detention center, safer and more secure. The grant would help replace and upgrade 30 windows that were not addressed during a recent $14 million renovation and expansion project. Some of the windows are from the original 1957 building and some are from a 1975 renovation. New detention-grade, tamper-resistant windows are needed to improve security along the front entrance and in sleeping rooms. It also will improve temperature control and livability. This is an appropriate use of taxpayer money because it will enhance public safety for all connected with the facility. It will be used for capital improvements at an essential facility performing a core government function. The Youth Center serves approximately 200 juveniles per year.
