WHITMER, CROPSEY FACE OFF IN “SENATE SHOWDOWN” TO BENEFIT SALVATION ARMY

Friendly competition to raise funds for critical mission work

LANSING - Today Sen. Gretchen Whitmer (D-East Lansing) and Sen. Alan Cropsey (R-DeWitt) will participate in a friendly competition in downtown Lansing to raise funds for the Salvation Army. Each Senator will ring bells on opposite corners of Michigan and Washington Avenue this afternoon from 12 - 1 p.m. to see who can raise the most money for the Salvation Army’s critical missions throughout the state.

“Sen. Cropsey and I have exchanged a few spirited debates during Senate sessions this year, but this effort will focus on the spirit of giving to a good cause,” said Sen. Whitmer. “The Salvation Army has done amazing work in the Lansing area for over a hundred years, so I hope the people of my district will come out and support our efforts this afternoon.”

All the donations made during the "Senate Showdown" will directly support programs providing emergency food and shelter, rent and utility assistance, prenatal and child development programs for teen mothers, addictions treatment, and assistance for seniors in Mid-Michigan.

“We encourage everyone to come out and join in such a worthy cause,” Cropsey said. “Our goal is to make a difference in the lives of many area families.”
