The Michigan State Senate's website contains additional information on committees, legislation, Senators, and other items.

 

  1. Where can I get additional information about specific State departments?

Each State department has its own website, with specific departmental information. Links to all State Departments can be found here.

 

  1. Where can I get additional information on the SFA website about program "X"?

Information on the SFA website is organized by budget areas and by department under the State Budget menu. Alternatively, try the search function to find more information on a topic.

 

  1. Has the Senate Fiscal Agency written anything about _____?

The Search button, located at the top of each page, allows you to search by subject, author, or within the full text of all SFA documents on the SFA website.

 

  1. How can I get copies of SFA publications?

All current SFA publications are available on this website, other than summaries and analyses of legislation, which are available through the Michigan Legislature’s website. If you cannot find what you are looking for, or to obtain paper copies of a publication, contact the bill analysis secretary at 517-373-5383.

 

  1. How do I find out where a budget/appropriations bill is in the legislative process?

That information is available under Appropriation Bill Status, located at the top of each webpage.

 

  1. When will the budget be enacted?

The exact timing varies each year, but in general it follows this pattern. The next fiscal year begins on October 1.

 

  1. I can't find the bill analysis for a certain piece of legislation. Where is it?

If you know the bill number, check out the Senate Bill analysis or the House Bill analysis. If you do not know the bill number, the Michigan Legislature's website allows you to search through each session going back to 1997-1998. (Please note: a bill is only summarized after being placed on a standing committee’s agenda. If a bill has been introduced only recently, or if no action has been taken on the bill, no summary or analysis may be available.)

 

  1. There is only one phone number provided for the Senate Fiscal Agency (517-373-2768). How do I reach a specific analyst?

The receptionist will direct your call to someone who can help you, even if a specific analyst is temporarily unavailable. Also, email communication is an excellent way to reach our staff.

 

  1. How can I find out when the SFA issues a new publication?

The SFA sends out email notification of new publications. You can sign up for email notifications here, or by selecting "email notification request" under the Publications menu. You can also be added to specific department lists to receive notices of appropriation subcommittee meetings. In your email, just ask to be added to a specific department's list.

 

  1. What is the Detroit CPI?

That information is available under Economic Data.

 

  1. What are the State's tax collections?

The latest numbers are available under Historical Revenue Data.

 

  1. How much revenue does the School Aid Fund receive?

Information on the School Aid Fund is available here.

 

  1. What was the latest revenue estimate?

That data is available under Featured Information or under State Budget Updates.

 

  1. Does the SFA have any employment opportunities?

Job openings, when available, are posted here.
