MEGA BOARD WILL CONSIDER PROJECTS THAT COULD LEAD TO JOBS FOR SOUTH-CENTRAL MICHIGAN

Agenda for Lansing hearing next week includes Jackson, Calhoun efforts

LANSING, Mich. –– A key state agency announced this week that they plan to consider several economic growth opportunities for Jackson and Calhoun Counties on Tuesday, June 17. The Michigan Economic Growth Authority Board included the Production Engineering (Jackson) and Brembo North America (Calhoun) projects on their agenda. Senator Mark Schauer has been working closely with both companies and state officials in an effort to secure incentives that will help them invest and create jobs locally.

“These are outstanding companies with the ability to help kick start job creation in our area,” said Schauer. “I commend our state and local economic development officials for recognizing the great potential here and look forward to working with everyone involved to move these projects forward.”

Production Engineering, which produces automobile components, has already cleared several hurdles in its effort to remain in Michigan instead of moving to Indiana. The current project involves approximately 180 jobs and is helped by new legislation recently signed into law that offers additional incentives for businesses to remain and grow in Michigan.

Brembo North America is looking at two sites in Michigan, including Homer, to create more than 200 positions. The company primarily manufactures brake systems for high-performance automobiles.

The MEGA Board hearing will take place next Tuesday, June 17 at 10 a.m. in the Lake Michigan Conference Room of the MEDC Building, 300 N. Washington Sq., Lansing.
