Schauer Helps Bring 380 New Jobs To Battle Creek
720 New Jobs Expected Indirectly
LANSING-Mark Schauer (D-Battle Creek) announced today that his efforts to bring the Governor’s job
creation program to his district have taken a successful step forward. Duncan Aviation, a high level
aviation maintenance and renovation firm in Battle Creek, will be the recipient of a job development grant
from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC).
“I’m pleased that we have been able to successfully partner with MEDC on a project that could deliver
more than 700 new jobs to the Battle Creek community,” Sen. Schauer said. “Projects like this are
gratifying in that they help attract new businesses to our area and provide better employment
opportunities for our families.”
In February, Sen. Schauer held a town hall meeting on economic development options for Battle Creek.
The meeting brought together the Governor and Duncan leadership to craft the terms of possible funding
for job creation.
Duncan was considering locating these new jobs in its Nebraska plant. The new funding has encouraged
Duncan to keep these new 380 jobs in Battle Creek. An additional 346 jobs are expected to result
indirectly for a total of 726 projected new jobs in the Battle Creek area. “We need these jobs, and I am
pleased that we could find a solution that works for both Battle Creek and Duncan,” stated Schauer.
Duncan will spend $19.5 million to expand the air craft surface facilities.
“In addition to the single business tax credit, Duncan will receive a training grant. This will ensure that
the grant has long lasting effects for the district,” said Schauer.
The MEDC grant will take two forms, a tax credit and a training grant. $2.2 million will be awarded in
the form of a small business tax credit, and up to $175,000 will be given as a job training and
development grant.
MEDC announced other grants today as well. More information can be found at www.michigan.org.
