Senator Jacobs Honored with Michigan’s Children’s Legacy Hero Award

LANSING---State Senator Gilda Z. Jacobs (D-Huntington Woods) was honored recently by the advocacy group Michigan’s Children with their Legacy Hero award. Senator Jacobs received the award at their Much Ado About Something event held in Lansing on December 9, 2008.

“I am very honored to again be recognized by Michigan’s Children,” said Senator Jacobs. “With the help of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle, we have been able to pass significant legislation that will improve the lives of Michigan’s most vulnerable children. When we help a child live a better life we are making an investment in that child, our state, and our country. I look forward to continuing to advocate for the children of Michigan in the next legislative session.”

This is the second time the group has honored Senator Jacobs with the Legacy Hero award for her legislative work for children. She is the sponsor of a new law and co-sponsor of others in a recent bi-partisan package that will more quickly move foster children into permanent placements. Among Senator Jacobs’ accomplishments is her sponsorship of the law that allows children to carry and self-administer asthma inhalers and/or epinephrine auto injectors while attending Michigan camps.
