Cropsey said flawed House plan misses a golden opportunity to help an area job provider

LANSING – Senate Majority Floor Leader Alan Cropsey said today that House Democrats and the Granholm administration “missed a golden opportunity” by refusing to help an area job provider in Michigan’s uncertain economy.
Cropsey, R-DeWitt, made his comments as House Bill 4922 worked its way through both legislative chambers. The measure is part of a multi-bill package that gives the Michigan Economic Development Corp. some extra MEGA credits to help employers and adds accountability and transparency to the process.
Earlier this month, Cropsey had successfully moved a Senate amendment allowing Federal Mogul to use its MEGA credits for employees who work at least 30 hours a week, are provided health care benefits and are subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
Although the Senate-approved version of the bill contained the key provision to assist Federal Mogul, the administration and legislative Democrats quickly stripped it out in the House.
“This unfortunate decision is tough news, especially for the people of Greenville,” said Cropsey. “I am disappointed that Democrats blocked this chance to aid a company and a community. Both have been hit hard and an opportunity to lend them a helping hand has been blown away.”
