Sanborn to introduce a bill protecting schoolchildren

LANSING--State Sen. Alan Sanborn has announced that he is crafting legislation designed to protect schoolchildren from sex offenders.
The Student Transportation Safety Zone Act would prohibit a registered sex offender from loitering within 300 feet of a school bus stop or attempting to have contact with a student at a bus stop.
“As elected officials, public safety is always our concern, and our ultimate priority is protecting Michigan’s children,” said Sanborn, R-Richmond Township. “This proposal is a very important step in helping ensure child safety.”
Sanborn began working on his legislation after the Oxford school district recently moved the location of one of its bus stops after determining a registered sex offender was living at the address.
Sanborn’s measure is expected to be introduced in the Senate later this month.
