Senator Alan Sanborn
A lifelong resident of Macomb County, Senator Alan Sanborn was born and raised in the city of Mount Clemens. After college he served the county as a juvenile probation officer for 20 years before first being elected to public office. In 2002, he was elected to his current position representing the 11th Senate District - consisting of: the townships of Armada, Bruce, Chesterfield, Harrison, Lenox, Macomb, Ray, Richmond, Shelby and Washington; the villages of Armada, New Haven and Romeo; and the Cities of Mount Clemens and New Baltimore, as well as those portions of the Cities of Memphis and Richmond that are within Macomb County.
On January 8, 2003, Senator Sanborn was elected, by his colleagues, to serve in a presiding role within the Senate as the Assistant President Pro Tempore. He also serves as Chairman of the Committee on Economic Development, Small Business and Regulatory Reform. His other committee assignments include: the Banking and Financial Services Committee; the Committee on Families and Human Services; and the Judiciary Committee. Alan is known by his Senate colleagues for his integrity and professionalism, as well as for a work ethic that has resulted in his never having missed a roll call vote.
In addition to his legislative responsibilities, Senator Sanborn is active in his church, local Kiwanis club and such organizations as the Fraternal Order of Police. He is a former member of the Juvenile Justice Association of Michigan, and has served on the Criminal Justice Advisory Committee for Rochester College. Before joining the legislature, Senator Sanborn was an active member of the Michigan-Ontario Juvenile Officers Association as well as a youth-athletics coach. He is currently a member of several local Chambers of Commerce including the: Central Macomb Chamber, Italian American Chamber, Romeo/Washington Chamber and Sterling Heights, Utica and Shelby Township Chamber.
The Senator received his Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University, where he majored in Social Science and minored in Political Science. He and his wife, Lori, live in Richmond Township with their three children, Adam, Joshua and Marirose.
