Sen. Tony Stamas, R-Midland, welcomed Otsego County Economic Alliance Executive Director Jeff Ratcliffe to the state Capitol Wednesday. Ratcliffe testified before the Senate Economic Development and Regulatory Reform Committee in support of Stamas's bill to create an economic tool for the reuse of vacant facilities. Senate Bill 500 could apply to a vacant facility such as the former Kimball Electronics building in Gaylord. The measure was approved by the committee. (10/14/2009)

State Sen. Tony Stamas, R-Midland, and his colleagues welcomed the Midland Dow girls' tennis team to the state Capitol Tuesday. Stamas saluted the Chargers for winning their first state tennis championship. Team members in attendance included: Meghan Woody, Katie Close, Kelli Close, Daniella Patton,Stephanie Kennedy, Allie Vickery and Andrea Calhoun; and coach Garrett Turner. (6/23/2009)

Sen. Tony Stamas, R-Midland, welcomed Tawas City attorney Chris Martin to the state Capitol Tuesday. Martin testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Senate Bills 21 through 24. Stamas introduced the legislation to help prevent nonpartisan judicial candidates from being penalized if they receive incorrect information regarding the number of nominating petition signatures required to have their name placed on the ballot. All four bills were approved by the committee. (2/17/2009)

Sen. Tony Stamas, R-Midland, welcomed Doug Pattullo, West Branch Regional Medical Center chief executive officer, to the state Capitol Wednesday. Pattullo testified before the Senate Health Policy Committee on Senate Bill 1304. Sponsored by Stamas, the bill would allow governmental or public hospitals to borrow through the Michigan State Hospital Finance Authority. The measure was approved by the committee. (5/21/2008)
