Senator Gleason Announces DEQ Loan for Fenton Pump Stations

Funding Will Help City Improve Environment, Public Health

LANSING-Senator John J. Gleason (D-Flushing) announced today that the City of Fenton has been approved for a $2.01 million loan from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to help with the city’s water systems.

“This loan will help the City of Fenton update their infrastructure to properly meet the needs of their residents while also improving the environment,” said Sen. Gleason. “Modernizing and updating these pump stations will increase their efficiency and overall quality, especially in the case of an emergency.”

The loan from the DEQ is for the replacement of five aging pump stations to ensure reliable operation of the collection system, as well as the installation of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition equipment and standby generators to seven pump stations for proper functioning during emergency conditions.

Stimulus funds made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 are being provided to Fenton in the form of loan principal forgiveness totaling $804,000. Senator Gleason and the DEQ commend Fenton for its efforts to protect Michigan’s water resources and the public health.
