LANSING-Today Sen. Mickey Switalski (D-Roseville) spoke out against Senate Joint Resolution H, a resolution that would devastate local public safety and education resources. This resolution would cost $253 million and it is unpaid for, said Switalski. It will result in a tax increase for the majority of homeowners, and will have significant and negative consequences on our neighbors and communities, not just in the tax disparity it would create, but in the services that would have to be reduced to accommodate it. SJR H would reduce revenue that goes to local communities for schools, police and fire, higher education, and job training programs. This would come at a time when the economic climate is causing foreclosure and crime rates to rise, unemployment is up over 11%, and services to help train workers and keep streets safe are heavily needed. SJR H is a Trojan Horse with unintended consequences, and will not provide the tax relief it was meant to provide, said Switalski. It is harmful to homeowners, and even more harmful for the communities they live in. # # # |
