SEN. SWITALSKI ANNOUNCES $2.28 MILLION IN LOCAL ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS
Jobs Today Transportation Investment to fund up to 25 percent
LANSING—The first round of road projects in Governor Jennifer M. Granholm’s Jobs Today transportation investment program became a reality today as matching grants to local communities from the Michigan Department of Transportation were announced this morning. State Senator Mickey Switalski (D-Roseville) announced that two projects in Roseville will receive a $422,720 Jobs Today match toward the projects.
"This is more good news for our local and Michigan economy," Sen. Switalski said. "Improving our roads while creating jobs benefits everyone. It’s a great boost for our long-term economic growth.”
The Roseville projects include milling and patching existing roadways on Frazho Road from Hayes Road to Gratiot Avenue (M-3) and on Martin Road between Barkman Road and Gratiot Avenue (M-3). The projects will also include curb and gutter elevation adjustments, drainage improvements and road resurfacing.
In May, the House and Senate approved a measure to designate $80 million in the state’s supplemental transportation budget to help county road commissions and local governments meet federal match funding requirements for federal transportation grants. The money will make the state eligible to receive $320 million in federal funds earmarked for Michigan.
