DETROIT, Michigan Russell Street Missionary Baptist Church of Detroit has named State Senator Martha G. Scott its Woman of the Year. Senator Scott received the award on September 13, at the churchs 2009 Womans Day celebration from Pastor Deedee M. Coleman and Womans Day Chairperson Sister Phyllis Fuller. I have received many awards over the years, but nothing is so great an honor as being recognized by my family of faith, Senator Scott said. I was truly surprised and humbled by this wonderful award. The award recognizes Senator Scott for her love of her church and community. Senator Scott has been a member of the church, located at 8700 Chrysler Drive in Detroit, for more than 60 years. Russell Street Missionary Baptist Church was founded in 1916, beginning the year before as a Sunday school.
