FINAL PASSAGEHB 4751 (Calley) The bill would create a new act known as the Family Military Leave Act to allow family military leave from employment for parents and spouses of individuals called to active military service. The bill also prescribes certain rights and responsibilities of the employee and employer. The employer would not be required to pay salary or wages to the employee while on family military leave but would be required to continue existing fringe benefits.
HB 4785 (Hammel) Extend Unemployment Benefits: The bills (HB 4785-4786) would amend the Michigan Employment Security Act to (1) provide unemployment benefits to individuals who are available for, and seeking, only part-time work, and (2) provide extended benefits to individuals who exhaust regular benefits and are enrolled in an approved job training program. Enactment of these provisions would enable the state to receive $138.9 million in additional federal funding made available under the federal American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009.
