LANSING- Gilda Z. Jacobs (D-Huntington Woods) was honored recently with the 2008 Michigan Fatherhood Coalitions Child Advocate Award. Senator Jacobs was honored for her work as the Minority Vice-Chair of the Senate Families and Human Services Committee, and her sponsorship and support of legislation to promote child health, safety and welfare. The Coalition specifically mentioned her work as a sponsor and co-sponsor in 2008 of legislation to expedite moving foster children into permanent placements. I thank the Coalition for this award, and for their help and advocacy for children, said Jacobs. Working to improve the lives of children is working to improve the future of our communities, state and country. With the help of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle, we have been able to pass significant legislation that will improve the lives of Michigans most vulnerable children. There is still much work to be done, and I look forward to continuing to advocate for our children. Among Senator Jacobs accomplishments is her sponsorship of the law that allows children to carry and self-administer asthma inhalers and/or epinephrine auto injectors while attending Michigan camps.
