LANSING—Governor Granholm and Senator Deb Cherry (D-Burton) announced today that Genesee and Oakland County will receive $6.2 million in road project funding as part of the Governors 2008 Economic Stimulus Package. This is great news for the people of my district and the entire state. The Governor laid out a plan in her State of the State address, and today she put it into action, said Sen. Cherry. These projects will bring local road improvements, economic growth and good jobs for hardworking people. Oakland County will receive $5.9 million for freeway signing on I-75 to improve traffic and safety. Genesee County is getting $300,000 to add a center left turn lane on M-15 at Kipp Road in Goodrich to increase traffic flow and limit the risk of accidents. Both projects were moved up from 2009 to this summer. The Governors Road Project Stimulus Package includes $150 million in building projects for necessary roads and buildings. The package also will create 2,100 additional construction jobs over the next two building seasons—with better roads as the result of our investment. The package is made possible by refinancing existing debt and bonding to take advantage of lower interest rates. # # # Elected to the Senate in 2002 and 2006, Senator Cherry is a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, serving as Minority Vice Chair on the Subcommittees for Community Health and Retirement. She is also a member of the Subcommittee on Capital Outlay. |
