LANSING, Mich. –– State Senator Ray Basham (D-Taylor) was recently selected by DADS and MOMS of Michigan as the 2008 Legislator of the Year for his advocacy and commitment to families, children and marriage.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by such an admirable organization that is so dedicated to the well-being of our children,” said Sen. Basham. “To ensure our state has a successful future, we need to be committed to facilitating strong family structures that help our children grow and develop with good family values.”

Senator Basham has worked with the DADS organization for several years on important parental issues in the Legislature. Since Michigan’s family divorce rate is now well above 50 percent, the available options should encourage both parents and our State to seek all available alternatives of recourse prior to separating the children from either parent or their biological family.

DADS of Michigan (www.DADSofmichigan.org) and MOMS of Michigan are volunteer responsible parent education organizations for fathers and mothers. They instruct on the importance of involved biological family to the successful development of their children. DADS of Michigan is dedicated to legislation keeping both biological parents actively engaged in the lives of their children despite divorce and custody in most instances. These organizations believe that the “best” parent is both parents.
