One-Stop Website for MI Universities Education Benefits Up and Running

Proposal Introduced by Anderson Added to State Website

LANSING-In January, State Sen. Glenn S. Anderson (D-Westland) introduced a proposal that would create a one-stop-shop website for Michigan veterans exploring the options offered by Michigan’s institutions of higher learning.

Policies have been implemented at many of Michigan’s universities to streamline the admissions process and offer important assistance as servicemen and women transition to life in the classroom. However, information about the programs offered had been difficult to find, scattered on the 15 institutions’ individual websites.

“The men and women in uniform who have served our country deserve the best services and opportunities our state can offer,” said Sen. Anderson. “As the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill takes effect this year, our state must create an environment that will encourage veterans to choose Michigan as they make education decisions. These individuals have made an immeasurable contribution to our nation’s security and they are prepared to again make a great contribution to Michigan’s economy and communities. We need to ensure that they have full and easy access to information about the opportunities that exist for them at Michigan’s first class higher education institutions.”

Following Senator Anderson’s recommendation, the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and the Department of Information Technology launched this new feature under the “State Universities Veterans Information” tab located on the left-hand menu at www.michigan.gov/veterans. By placing these important resources in a central location, the information will be more easily located. Sen. Anderson praised the agency for updating the web address.

“This website is a fine example of state agencies stepping up to the plate to reform the way we administer government services,” Anderson said. “This will help streamline and secure access to all the resources veterans need to make a smooth transition to the classroom and to their future.”
