Senator Goeff Hansen (District 34)



General Description: The office of Senator Goeff Hansen is currently looking to fill internship positions for the Fall, Winter and Spring semesters. The internship is based in Senator Hansen's Lansing Office, 7100 of the Binsfeld Building. Senator Hansen currently serves Muskegon, Newaygo and Oceana counties, and is focusing his legislative efforts on issues involving natural resources, agriculture, transportation, urban/rural policy, human services and tourism. Interns are expected to provide assistance to the Senator and members of his staff in a wide range of areas, including legislation, communications, constituent affairs, and general office management. Responsibilities associated with this position will include administrative responsibilities, like answering phones and processing mail, constituent casework, researching and drafting district communication, monitoring legislation and conducting legislative research, and assisting with committee work.

Hours: Negotiable

Qualifications: Previous office experience and knowledge of the Legislature and legislative process is helpful, but not required. Computer skills, including knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, strong writing, communication and interpersonal skills, and a positive, outgoing, and friendly attitude are required.

Salary: This is an unpaid position, but college credit is possible. (See your school’s Internship Policy)
