Internship Opportunity

Summary Position Description:  Interns will assist Senator Ian Conyers (D- Detroit, Lincoln Park, Allen Park, and Southgate) and staff with legislation, communications, constituent services and general office operations. As part of the internship program, interns will gain valuable, hands-on experience working in the Michigan Capitol. Some responsibilities will include: answering phones, monitoring and filing legislation, written correspondence to groups and individuals within Lansing and district, and research.

Qualifications: This internship is open to all students interested in public service enrolled in any major, Public Policy experience is not required. Applicants must have superior written and communication skills, be attentive to details, and comfortable liaising with state departments, community organizations, and constituents. Please note that a writing test or sample may be asked for during the interview. Excellent telephone, written communication skills, and a positive attitude preferred. Legislative experience and a basic understanding of computer office programs are helpful.

Status: Unpaid positions available. Students may be eligible for course credit through their institution. Start and end dates as well as flexibility of hours will be determined upon selection. Internships are filled on a rolling basis; you are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

This is a non-civil service, at-will position.
